A CMS or Content Management System is basically an administrative section of a website that is not accessible to members of the public and which can be used to manage the content of the site. Whilst not every client requires one they can help small companies to save a great deal of money over the years by allowing them to update their own websites instead of having to employ web development companies to carry out basic editing tasks for them. Some companies will only offer a standard CMS product that they have either written to be used with every site they create or bought from a third party, but we can design a system especially for each client that does exactly what they want it to. Even though the functionality that can be written into these management systems is quite advanced we always make sure that they remain extremely easy to use and that they are a good fit when considering the website design as a whole.
Apart from allowing site owners to perform basic text editing tasks a Content Management System can have many additional features included such as the ability to create new menus and links, add Google maps to pages and remove or add images to various parts of a site. If desired it is possible to write a management system to allow companies to add completely new galleries to the pages on their site. Cheap web design packages do not have to result in an inflexible website that ends up costing a firm more money in updates than it saved them initially. We believe that our customers have a right to demand the same functionality that another web design firm could provide for them, without having to pay the same high prices that they might be charged by another company. A well designed CMS can really put an organisation in control of their site and help them to make the most of the website design we have created for them.
Some firms may believe that they will have little need for a content management system because they have no plans to introduce new products or services in the near future but this can be an erroneous way of thinking. In order for any type of small business web design to stay fresh and appealing it is a good idea to update the content on a regular basis. New pictures can help to change the look slightly and new content can help to maintain a good position in search engine results. Whilst the most advanced type of management system is unlikely to offer firms the ability to perform a complete website redesign, it can at least save them the time and money that they would otherwise expend in finding and paying a web developer to do updating work for them. For people that are still not sure what a CMS can do for them we have included some examples of them on our website design information pages.
